Profile

The Department of Philosophy at M.N.C. Balika Mahavidyalaya, Nalbari has a rich history, having been established on July 8, 1979. Over the past 44 years, it has earned a prestigious reputation as a leading department, consistently producing top-performing students at both the undergraduate (U.G) level within Gauhati University and the HS level. This department has emerged as an outstanding center for philosophical education, especially for the female community.

Affiliated with Gauhati University, the Department of Philosophy focuses on the study of fundamental concepts such as existence, knowledge, values, reason, and language, encompassing the age-old pursuit of wisdom. It is here that philosophy, often described as "the love of wisdom," is explored and cultivated.

In line with the contemporary philosophical thought, the department emphasizes the significance of human self-existence as the ultimate foundation of the universe. It champions the idea that philosophy is inherently human-centric, striving to unravel humanity\'s place within the cosmic order.

One core belief held by the department is that existence is not only fundamental but also inherently virtuous and moral. Philosophy, in this context, is seen as the means to build a moral society, fostering values and ethical principles that benefit humanity as a whole. The renowned analytic philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein\'s perspective on the true meaning of a "form of life" as a way of human performance and conduct resonates strongly within the department\'s teachings.

The Department of Philosophy at M.N.C. Balika Mahavidyalaya Nalbari has a distinguished history of nurturing philosophical thought, emphasizing the importance of human existence, and striving to create a morally upright society. It stands as an integral part of the college\'s academic legacy, contributing to the holistic development of its students.
